Jewelry Care: The Noho Way

Our customers have described their feelings to us: that feeling when they receive their jewelry- they feel so happy and proud to own that beautiful piece and cannot wait to style it. One of the important things that people often miss out on is how to take care of their jewelry pieces. NOHO items come with a box of care instructions to be followed, and here we want to break it down for you and give you some tips/ tricks to make sure your jewelry is long lasting and doesn’t tarnish.

Your jewelry should always be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.  Doing this will ensure that your clothing doesn’t get caught in your clothes during the removal process. An accidental pull of your necklace while taking off your shirt can cause a chain or string to break!

Make sure you keep your jewelry away from perfume, hairspray, moisture, bleaches and detergents.

Protect your jewelry from direct sunlight or excessive heat.

Don’t wear your jewelry in the pool or at the spa- again to avoid contact with water.

Don’t wash dishes or do laundry with your jewelry on- if cleaning products come in contact with your beautiful jewelry, their harsh chemicals may take the finish off!

Put your jewelry on after you apply hairspray and makeup. This goes back to keeping your jewelry dry. Perfumes, hairspray, lotion, and makeup usually contains harsh chemicals that can damage your beautiful jewelry. By waiting until you are all done your beauty routine you can avoid potential damage. Make sure your jewelry doesn’t come in contact with lotion or perfume!

The way you store your jewelry is of utmost importance. Store your jewelry in the original packaging, so that it avoids contact with air. The air around us is what makes metal tarnish. A Ziploc bag with the air squeezed out to prevent oxidization.
