The Ultimate Unwind

After a long day of doing what feels like everything under the sun, I have a few things that I do that help me unwind and shake the day off. This is a pretty set list that I swear by and it hasn’t failed me to date!Picture this: you come home after a long day of working, you run after the kids or maybe you run some errands, you organize your things and you get everything ready for the next day – but when you sit on your bed and you feel the aches and pains of the day taking over your body, you realize that you haven’t taken a minute for yourself all day. That’s when this list comes into play:

1. Make Sure to Get Alone Time

I live in a house with people in and out constantly; there’s doors opening and closing all around and a different conversation taking place in every room. When I have had a particularly hectic day, I like to just shut everyone out and just carve out some me-time.

2. Take a Hot Shower

Take one of those indulgent hot showers; you know, the one where you put on the hair mask, you do that scrub, you go that extra step and the best part, you get lost in thought. This shower will be the first step into washing away the craziness of the day. Plus, the heat of the water will help relieve the aches in your muscles, taking the relaxation to the next level.

3. Wear Comfy PJs

Once your hair is up in a towel and you’re done taking that super scrumptious shower, go for comfort over style. Slip into your coziest PJs (no matter how many holes it has accumulated over the years) to keep the feeling of calm and comfort going.

4. Make Some Tea

Next, make yourself a hot beverage of choice. I always reach for a soothing tea like chamomile. Avoid anything that is caffeinated because you don’t want today’s calm to become tomorrow’s chaos. The warmth of the tea will help your insides feel as cozy as your outside.

5. Mindless Shows

With your warm drink in hand, get into your bed, switch on Netflix and put on your favorite guilty pleasure show. This is no time for anything like Black Mirror or The Queen’s Gambit; you really want to pick a show that will keep you hooked, but won’t have you chasing the plot line. Some of my favorites include everything from The Real Housewives franchise and Bling Empire to Bridgerton, and even classics like Friends and Schitt’s Creek.

The real point of going through this list is to really just spend some time by myself. There is a lot of peace that comes from being alone, where you don’t have to stress about what needs to be done or said. It’s just a way to recalibrate your center, so you’re ready to take on the week ahead without feeling off-balance.

What’s your favorite way to unwind?
